Carlos Maza .10 Strings Guitar, piano, compositions
description How to describe Carlos Maza’s music ? It’s Latin America having fun with Europe, it’s a Spanish guitar in an Indian’s hands, an Inca flute that’s slipped into a sonata by Liszt. Just as the instruments pass quickly from hand to hand, so the ideas skip from one influence to another. Maza’s style lies in his warm, fast approach that moves from Santiago to Barcelona by way of Havana, bringing fish with birds’ heads onto our shores. His musical generosity evokes galleons full of gold that change into clouds. But time goes so quickly! One day in Cuba, he prepared some crayfish for us whilst giving us a music lesson and driving us at top speed to a nearby river for a swim. There was a grand piano on the roof, his wife and daughters were giving a concert on the car bonnet and the whole village was singing in the boot. He must even have been composing at the same time… (Louis Sclavis)
